Teacher with 18 years of experience gives lessons tailored to YOU

I love music and I love people. I want you to love music too, so I will find a way to teach you the music you love in a way that you succeed. I am not rigid, and will customize the lesson style to your needs. I have a bachelors degree in piano performance from the University of Idaho, and I have a masters in piano performance from the University of Kansas. When I was in graduate school, I taught distance piano and provided technical support for the program, so I can help you have a great online lesson experience. My motivation is love of music because of its benefit to humanity both personally and communally. I also want to help people who have given up on piano. I have gotten to know many people started to learn to play an instrument and have stopped lessons discouraged, often feeling that they are the problem. If that’s you, I can help you. I will give you the support you need to succeed, and I believe that everyone has the capacity to experience and make music. I understand the importance of musical basics like rhythm and pitch, so even though I teach piano, I will teach you to sing, and I will teach you how to make rhythms through large body movements such as clapping, stomping, walking, etc. These are the foundations that will help you understand what you are doing when you are making music, and ultimately love the way you play. I will also teach you musical literacy (or how to read music), because just like learning to read text helps us learn much more than only knowing how to speak, learning to read music gives you instant access to whatever music you want to learn. There are notated versions of almost every song you hear on Spotify or YouTube, and if there isn’t, I can make you one. My goal is that you are able to independently make music because you understand pitches, rhythm, harmony and notation, and you can read it too. That way, I can help not only love music, but love the way you make music.
